Word families and the word J'aime

We had a great Tuesday with Ms.  Mallmo! We read the book  "The Line" by Paula Bossio. It is a very interesting book because it has no words.  We made predictions to see what might be at the end of the line in the book.

Here are some of our predictions...

Her house - E.S
A robot - Duncan R (SK)
A T-Rex -  Colton
A block man - C.C
The author - A.B

We also talked about all the different kinds of lines and what we could use them to represent.

* Straight lines
           - To make roads, walls, houses

* Squiggly lines.
          - To make fingers, thumbs, sand castles, ocean waves

* Loopy lines
           - To make dinosaurs, e's, balloons, snake, hair, vines, slide,                   roller coasters

* Curved lines
           - To make piles of snow or sand, a head, bread, a chin, road,               a slide, a ball, a bubble

* Zig zag lines
            - To make hills, claws, W, hair, teeth, "z"

* Dotted lines
            - To make roads, hair

We made some tape art.  The children put down tape and then painted over top of it... once the painting was dry we peeled the tape off and made these beautiful creations :)

 We encouraged the children to write their initials, or numbers.  They had free choice to create whatever they wanted.

A.T decided to make a snowflake :)  In this picture she is pulling the tape off.

C.C is hanging up her beautiful piece of art!!

In the afternoon we also talked about various word families. "et", "op", "at", "am", "un" and "od".

A.T was making words in the "at" word family

S.O was making words in the "in" and "am" family :)

We also played with a huge geo board and a few boys made a marble maze

F.C enjoyed playing with our uppercase and lowercase roads

H.M was being very creative at the playdough center.

It warmed up in the afternoon for us to be able to go play outside :)

All in all we had a great Tuesday

We had another great Wednesday with Mme. Cayci :)  This morning we talked more about the word "j'aime" and "je n'aime pas". We are getting so good at our French words.  We are so very proud.

We also had some special visitors this morning for our schools district review.  They were in our room observing for about 5-10 minutes while we were at the carpet this morning.

M.H was practicing matching his colours in French!

E.S used our colour wall to write les couleurs en Francais :)  She then went around the room looking for objects that matched the colours.

He also was fishing for les couleurs.  We learned a few new ones, Noir et Blanc

R.D decided to make a Canada flag for when we sing O'Canada in the morning.  Now we will have a flag to look up at :)   So very thoughtful!!

We also talked about the story la tortue et le lapin. The children have learned some body actions and movements for the words tortue, lapin, marche, dormi, and courir.

Monday :)

Here are some pictures from last week that didn't make it on our website last week due to illness.

On Thursday we did an experiment on colour mixing

Here are some of our predictions of what colour the two or three ice cubes will make

The children's names are written in the colour that they predicted our new colours were going to make

We displayed them by our window so that the ice cubes would melt faster

 It was very exciting watching the new colours appear

We also did some snowman art also.  We mixed shaving cream with glue and it makes a very cool puffy paint

We also practiced counting and matching the 3 ways we can represent numbers

Great work!!!

 A.D was very proud to show the class what she created.  It's truly amazing what we can do!!!
