Where did the time go ...


We have had such a busy couple of weeks.  
We cannot believe that we are approaching the last week of school. 



A big thank you to those who donated items to support the Humane Society!   We had a great visit!!!



We have been talking a but about outer space for the past 2 weeks. 


We drew planets, and stars


We also enjoyed playing in our classroom spaceship!! 


We have been creating amazing structures with the blocks



Some of the girls made a stage and started singing on it  :)


Some of the boys were making bridges!



R.D has been interested in the Formula 1 car racing, and he was writing out all the team names!


A.B made a person out of the materials that she found at the free art table



S.O made a beautiful pony




C.C enjoying the paint center  :)


A few friends painted two boxed brown to add to the Inukshuk that we helped create in the atrium of the school

We have been talking a little bit about aboriginal heritage since National Aboriginal Day was on June 21st

R.D made a picture of some aboriginal people hunting to catch food


We also made a classroom tepee that the children have been playing in  :)



We sent home all the quiet time books, blankets and mats.  We no longer require them as we are cleaning out the classrooms and we plan on doing some fun activities during that time :)

Krista our classroom grasshopper!


We enjoyed playing with the new sensory bins this week.  We now have a soil sensory bin with fake flowers, carrots, pots, shovels and gardening gloves :) 






We also had fun playing with the construction sensory bin with rocks and trucks! 




We found a new friend "Krista" our classroom Grasshopper!!! We put her in a container and enjoyed looking at her for an afternoon.   We drew pictures and made books about her :)   
After a day we let her go. 


L.M and E.S made many pictures and books about our grasshopper friend!  It was really neat to have a close look at Krista.

We did a story retell with Mrs. Mallamo. We read the story 
"Andrews loose tooth" by Robert munch. We did a great job of listening to the story and then retelling all the facts that happened in the book  :)


Last week we were talking a bit about subtraction and this week  have started talking about addition.








We listened to "when you add with a pirate" ...





We had fun playing with the new play dough from S.B  :)



We did a great deal of building this week also. 


D.R (SK) made this pretty amazing racetrack!  There has been some talk this past week of the Formula 1 Grand Prix. 


R.D drew some of his favorite Formula 1 cars along with how fast they go :)



C.C made a rescue bot!

Les fleurs


We talked about flowers and the different parts of the flower this week. 




We labeled all the parts of the flower. 

Roots - Racines
Stem - Tige
Leaves - Feuille
Petal - pétale
Flower - Fleur


We asked the children what they knew about flowers...

"When you pour water onto the roots, it sucks it up and brings it up for the flowers to grow" - S.O

"The roots also feed the flower" - B.M



We also did some math this week.  We talked about subtraction. 



We also had some children measuring how long they were 



C.C and M.R took turns measuring themselves using the wooden blocks.

We have also been very creative this week ... 


A few friends were working on their perler beads.  We made patterns and shapes! 



We also made beautiful pictures and figures out of Plasticine! 



A.K made a musical drum using the straws and connectors!  Great imagination  :)


He also made a drum!




T.H was practicing his alphabet on the mini net books




R.D was drawing different hockey team symbols and writing the team names!


C.C painting a beautiful picture to hang up in the classroom  :)

Saying goodbye to our Butterfly friends!


We have had such an exciting two weeks!  Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming a new friend to our class :)  We have also been watching our classroom caterpillars turn into their chrysalis and then we watched them turn into beautiful painted lady butterflies!!

We transferred our chrysalis to the mesh netting.  We put 2 in each and then our last mesh netting had 3.

H.M made a butterfly to put in the butterfly cage! 



After the butterflies emerged from their chrysalis we put them out at the science center for the children to take a closer look.  D.R (SK) decided he wanted to draw them

R.D and H.M made some beautiful art  :)


We have been doing a great deal of writing in the past two weeks!!! 



We also turned out dramatic play area into a Beauty Salon "Sparkle Bar". 
We made hairstyle books for both girls and boys.  



We also used pipe cleaners to add highlights to our hair  :)  Our beauty salon also had a nail salon area.



We also made some creative art pieces using various flowers and greenery. 



R.T and C.C enjoyed making this art :)





C.S made two superheros "Green-Man, and Fire-Man".


 

M.H made a book.  We love all the writing  :)

We have been learning about various types of musical instruments this past week, and how to keep a beat! 


We also made our very own musical instruments from various items collected in the classroom :)



We also had some very creative friends in the block area building boats and islands. 




Friday morning we had the pleasure of releasing our butterflies into the wild. This was such a neat experience for everyone.  Very beautiful!




We are very sad to see them go.  Although it was an amazing experience to watch the life cycle of our butterflies  :)
