St. Patrick's Day and Spring

We hope everyone had a great March Break!!!  It is so great to be back.

Here is what we got up too this week...

The week before March break we made a paper mâché volcano to go along with our dinosaur inquiry. This week we were able to Paint it.  We are very excited to have our volcano erupt next week as a science experiment.

Monday was St. Patrick's Day!!

A.T made some shamrocks using toilet paper rolls dipped in paint.

Some friends showed a real interest in making story books this week.  S.O and R.D made several books.

First S.O painted a picture and then she wrote a story to go with it

"One day Julie woke up it was St. Patrick's day. There was a rainbow and clovers.  She put on her clothes, she got on the bus.  She waved goodbye to mommy. She wore green." - S.O

 R.D's book of rugby players

R.D's book of rugby symbols / teams

We have been building beautiful structures also.

We have been building castles, roads, and houses.

B.M was very proud to show us the cross he made out of blocks.

These building blocks were a huge hit this week.

Thursday was the first day of Spring!
We asked what is Spring?

* "Its when the grass starts to grow" - L.M

* "It's a tiny green ball that turns into a leaf" - S.O

* "When we use lawn mowers to cut the grass" - A.B

We also asked if there were any signs of spring Thursday morning?

* "There is water outside.  The snow is melting" - D.R(jk)

* "It rains a lot in spring." - C.C

We have also been Learning about Canadian currency.  We talked about the penny, nickel, dime, quarter, loonies and twoonie. We also played at two centers related to Canadian money.

We also read the book "Don't wake the bear".

We discovered that it is a rhyming book. We also
 talked a little bit about hibernation and the many signs of Spring.  We also went over some Spring words that we are going to add to our writing centre. Various words such as: Spring, buds, flowers, chicks, eggs,   Etc.

We also worked on our fine motor skills this week with some fun centers.

We also had our reading buddies visit us on Friday morning.  We had a great time having Mrs. Beardsley's class come to visit us and read to our students.

We had such a great week!

*** if anyone happens to have any clear egg cartons that are not needed we would greatly appreciate them.  We plan on doing an activity growing grass seed.  We will also gladly accept regular egg cartons was well!!  :)

See you on Monday!
